مجتبى_فردوسي_بورirantaj-Press Briefings of H.E. Mojtaba Ferdousi Pour-Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Amman  On the occasion of 39th anniversary of victory of The Islamic Revolution of Iran

We celebrate the 39th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution and the National Day of the Islamic Republic of Iran while the sapling of the Islamic Revolution has grown into a stable, fruitful tree in the face of four decades of strong storms and successive misfortunes. A movement aimed at countering domestic despotism and foreign dominance and achieving freedom, justice, and independence, the Islamic Revolution succeeded in opening a new chapter based upon people’s participation and votes in order to materialize national willpower by establishing a “republic” which is still progressing.

The paramount achievements of the Islamic Republic of Iran include the achievement of genuine political independence and establishment of democracy, which have paved the way for setting considerable records in the pursuit and implementation of the principles of democracy, granting political rights to citizens, maintaining gender equality by increasing women’s social participation, preserving the rights of the minorities, scientific growth in various fields of medicine, nanotechnology, and industry, enhancing economic growth, and departing from the petroleum-dependent single-product economy, reducing the share of petroleum in the governmental budget, strengthening the private sector, and supporting domestic and foreign financiers. At the present time and based upon the global economic indices, Iran is the 18th most effective economy in the world.

The valuable achievements of the Islamic Republic of Iran on this basis and in order to establish and implement democracy include holding free elections and paying attention to the principle of circulation of power based upon people’s votes. After the revolution, Iran has held nearly 40 free national elections with the broad participation of eligible voters. In the most recent of these elections, Iran witnessed a 73-percent participation in the presidential elections of 19 May 2017, in which, by reelecting Dr. Hasan Rouhani, the

Iranian people reaffirmed the continuation of moderation and broad-based interaction with all countries of the world.

The signing of the nuclear agreement is not only the confirmation of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s policies for interaction with the international system, but also serves as a successful example of international interaction and multilateral diplomacy encompassing the interests of all parties and can even serve as a model for resolving other international crises. It should be reiterated that the Islamic Republic of Iran regards adherence to the JCPOA as a necessity for achieving the interests and security of the international community and ensuring the fulfillment of international commitments. Repeated verification by the IAEA has been an undisputable legal confirmation in this regard so far.

In addition to continuing its policy of interaction with the international system, the Islamic Republic of Iran endeavors to deepen its international relations and resolve complicated regional and international issues, particularly in the high-tension West Asia region, through collective participation. Collective issues and problems merit collective participation. Today, in the current integrated world and considering the intertwined interests of countries, the achievement of interests of one country is dependent upon the acknowledgement and achievement of the interests of other countries. One of the important problems of our region is the scourge of terrorism, which has caused the West Asia region to enter a perilous phase during the past years. Although ISIS – the most important embodiment of terrorism in the recent years – has been declining and being overwhelmingly defeated, terrorism in the form of radical groups still continues to scourge the international community and has not only affected West Asia but also threatens Europe, America, and the Far East. Iran played a pivotal role in defeating this ominous phenomenon and is still committed to fighting terrorism.

Accordingly, the Islamic Republic of Iran believes that overcoming terrorism requires collective action as well as serious, comprehensive collaboration by taking into consideration the collective interests of the international community. In addition to playing an effective role in combating terrorism, especially by assisting the governments of Iraq and Syria to expel the Takfirist terrorists from their cities and territories, we believe that the crises in the

region must be settled by the actors and states in the region, and that the interference of extra-regional powers without the request of the crisis-affected countries only increases the complexity of the equations and hence renders the resolution process more difficult.

In this framework, the Islamic Republic of Iran recommends and underlines the pursuit of national talks (including Syrian-Syrian and Yemeni-Yemeni talks), a comprehensive view of regional security, attempting to establish “sustainable security” in the region by emphasizing the “strong region” and ” security networking ” paradigm, and taking action in this framework, e.g. by establishing a “Persian Gulf Regional Talks Forum.”

As an effective member of the Islamic World, the Islamic Republic of Iran has invariably pursued the injustice imposed upon the Palestinian people as a fundamental concern and regards the restoration of the rights of the nation of Palestine as a central component in the path towards sustainable security in the region. We believe the continued occupation of Palestine is the most serious problem which besets the region and the world and underlies all regional issues directly or indirectly. The recognition of Bait al-Muqaddas (Jerusalem) as the capital of Israel by the US administration is, in effect, contrary to the global and Muslim consensus.

With regard to the Growing bilateral economic and parliamentary relations between The Islamic Republic of Iran and The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and strong determination of the leaders of two countries, President Dr. Hassan Rouhani and His Majesty King Abdullah II, a bright horizon for the expansion of bilateral relation is seen.
